The Electoral Commission of Makerere University Business School (MUBS), has reminded students of the mandatory voting requirements for the Guild Presidential Elections.
Scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, March 25th, the hotly contested race features six candidates representing various political affiliations and independent platforms.
Notable aspirants include Ms. Rose Nabwire (Independent), Mr. Lukwago Henry representing Uganda Young Democrats (UYD), Mr. Lakwo Fred Kenneth (Independent), Mr. Ambaho Taban of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), Mr. Ssemanda Fred Mawanda (Independent), and Mr. Tasobya Blessed representing the National Unity Platform (NUP).
According to EC Chairperson Bizimaana Edward, strict documentation requirements will be enforced at polling stations.
Continuing students (Year Two and above) must present both a valid MUBS Student Identification Card and their examination permit from the previous semester to be eligible to vote.
First-year students will present their examination permit from the previous semester along with a valid identification card from their former school.
The EC has emphasized that no exceptions will be made regarding the required documentation.
Students who have lost any of the required documents must obtain a police letter, which must be presented along with their passport photo.
The notice also states that “presenting only one of the required documents will not grant you access to vote.”
Analysts within the campus community suggest the race could be particularly close this year, with independent candidates making a strong showing alongside traditional party representatives.
