Wilson Mugazhu from Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) has been elected as the 35th President of the Uganda National Students’ Association (UNSA).
He secured a commanding victory with 273 votes in elections held yesterday at Seeta High School, Mukono.
Mugazhu, who currently serves as MUST’s Guild Finance Minister, emerged victorious in a field of six candidates.
His closest challenger, Rugumayo K Roy, garnered 213 votes, while Birungi Sharifa Nandudu came third with 137 votes.
“Congratulations to our very own H.E Wilson Mugazhu upon being elected as the 35th President of the Uganda National Students’ Association (UNSA),” MUST Guild celebrated on their Twitter platform.
In other key positions, Adiru Daisy won the Vice President seat with a strong showing of 390 votes, significantly ahead of her closest competitor, Atyang Anna Mary, who received 148 votes.
The position of General Secretary went to Kasule John, who secured 328 votes, while Ampeire Ashia was elected as Assistant General Secretary with 237 votes.
Francis Edonu from Uganda Christian University (UCU) clinched the Speaker position.
The elections, conducted across two polling stations, saw strong voter turnout and will usher in new leadership for Uganda’s national student body, representing university and tertiary institution students across the country.
