Sudhir Ruparelia under Crane Management Limited on Monday unveiled a high standard commercial building in the city center called Hardware City. Hardware City located at Entebbe Road was constructed to accommodate traders dealing in hardware products and services used in the construction industry. During the grand opening which took place at Entebbe Road, downtown Kampala, near Nakasero market, Sudhir Ruparelia, Chairman Ruparelia Group said the building cost a whooping $25m.
“When starting to work on this project, what we had in mind was to provide a one stop center that offers hardware products and services for construction. This would help customers to buy everything in one place. We wanted to create a situation were a customer doesn’t not move from one place to another looking for hardware goods or services.” the city businessman said.
“We have the biggest building in downtown Kampala. The building has 281 shops, 66 apartments ready to be occupied with a parking lot able to accommodate 800 cars. The state of the art building sits on about 27000 square meters. It was built in 18 months. Every square meter is able to withstand weight of 650kgs,” Sudhir noted.
Sudhir explained that the building was made strong because it will be housing construction materials which are strong and heavy. “Hardware materials are heavy and strong so we made sure the building is heavy.”
Rent, according to Sudhir, will be paid in shillings unlike other landlords who charge rent in dollars. “This has been done to enable our clients to pay a uniform rent amount for the next two years.”
The building is spacious and the height from floor to the ceiling his high enough to give tenants utmost comfort to do their business. “It is a quality building; we want you to make money here. We will always work together.” Sudhir said during the grand opening.
