Kyambogo University community has been in mourning and days of grief ever since the early days of last month when sudden and devastating deaths of its students began.
The days of gloom started around 16th March 2022 when Kimera Boniface Olara, a finalist student who had been pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Automative and Power Engineering was found dead around the shores of lake Victoria after he had been missing for days. It was reported that he had been slain and his body dumped around the shores of lake Victoria.
Just five days after Kimera Boniface’s passing, Rahmah Nakibuuka Namatovu a year one student passed on at Mulago hospital after she had been admitted although the cause of the sudden death still remains a mystery.
On 13th April 2022, Nicholas Collins Dhabasada a second year student that had been pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Management Science passed on after having slipped off from a hilltop at his home in Luuka District.
Just last week on Wednesday 20th April, Naigobe Esther a finalist student of Procurement and Logistics Management who had sat her final examinations and was doing Internship as she awaited graduation in September this year was knocked dead by a trailer on her way to Internship.
When the Kyambogo University fraternity was still mourning Late Esther, its grief was renewed by yet another shocking death of a one Kemigisha Miriam, a finalist student who had been pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Finance on 25th April 2022. She had written her final examinations as well and was doing Internship as she hoped to graduate in September.
The last one month has been such a difficult, sad, trying time for the entire Kyambogo University community. The days of sorrow include the sudden death of the beloved North Hall Warden Mr. Gabriel and an alumnus who committed suicide after failing to find employment having graduated in 2019. Hopefully, Kyambogo University will go through these tough times. May the souls of all the departed Kyambogo University students rest in eternal peace.
