The Law Development Center (LDC) is the only institution in Uganda that offers the Bar Course leading to the award of the post-graduate Diploma in Legal Practice.
News reaching us indicates that LDC has been plagued by a high failure rate among students, as high as 90 percent. The LDC library has been updated with written literature as well as increased Internet access for students to polish their performance but this years results are quite alarming.
With a total number of 1474 Students, Only 145 made the cut (61 from Mbarara campus and 84 from LDC Kampala) implying a 9.837177748% success rate. 1329 Students devastatingly failed, accounting for a failure rate of 90.16282225(%)
The darker side of the story is unfair charges for repeating a failed subject in Post Graduate Bar Course and Post Call Courses. A case in point;
- . Post Graduate Bar Course Compulsory Subject – Group A costs UGX 1,500,000
- Post Call Bar Course costs UGX 1,500,000
- Post Call Foundation Course costs UGX 1,000,000
- Post Graduate Bar Course Compulsory Subject – GroupB costs UGX 1,000,000
In 2018, the government of Uganda approved plans to establish regional campuses of the LDC in the Eastern Ugandan town of Mbale, Western Region, Mbarara and Northern Region, Lira. The Mbarara campus was established and operationalized effective in the 2018/2019 financial year.
