As University students are waiting for the communication from the head of state H.E Y.K Museveni regarding the re-opening of education institutions, some students are still stuck in hostels these include international students and nationals who were unable to go back to their homes. These lack essentials needed in their day to day life.
To their rescue, one of the international students at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) Amanjot Kaur has donated food relief to aid them in these difficult times.
With collaboration from the office of international relations and the Guild minister for international relations, a number of items were given out to international and a few national students these included sugar, spaghetti, rice, powdered milk and other non-food items.
Amanjot has also continuously supported the health service delivery both at MUST and Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital (MRRH) through soliciting support in the fight against COVID-19.
She donated 2 oxygen cylinders to MRRH to aid COVID-19 patients who found difficulty in breathing. Other items were sanitizers, masks and gloves.
According to the Guild president of MUST Ms. Mariam Iculet Arikosi, efforts are ongoing to help students who involuntarily remained in hostels.
‘’A detailed record of stranded students in different hostels was made. Some support has been offered to international students. Even still, we are pursuing more avenues to assist more of the students where possible,’’ She communicated.
