On Saturday 28th May 2022, Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) held her 28th graduation ceremony at Kihumuro main campus. During the ceremony, 1,319 students graduated with diplomas, degrees, masters, and PhDs which is the highest number compared to 1,269 graduated last year.
199 graduated with master’s and 29 with PhDs. These were in the fields of Medicine, Science, Technology, Education, Business, Engineering, Development studies, and Governance.
The Guest of Honor was Hon. Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaducu, the Minister of State for Primary Education and a MUST Alumnus. While speaking to the graduates, the minister urged them to be admirable ambassadors of MUST, uphold integrity, be innovative, creative, skillful and communication strategists. She added that all those values are vital in the 21st century. Specifically, to the girl-child, Hon Kaducu urged them to maintain their dignity by dressing up decently
Dr Kaducu added that, she trusts that MUST has given them the right skills to be job creators who can transform knowledge into practice and remain attractive in the job market.
Dr. Kaducu on behalf of Government appreciated MUST’s contributions to the community through research innovation and publication. The Minister also noted that, the government through the Ministry of ICT and Innovation has supported real time innovations at the University particularly, the Faculty of Computing and Informatics that provides solutions in the 4th technological generation.
Dr. Joyce Moriku Kaducu promised that government through the Ministry of Education and Sports, and the Ministry of Health shall workout to support Photo Kabada Project that has been developed in the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology to develop it into a commercial product that can be deployed in the health facilities.
In her conclusion, she congratulated all graduates for braving the challenging times of the covid-19 pandemic to finish their studies. She also extended her appreciation to everyone that supported the graduates especially the parents, guardians, sponsors, and university staff
