Makerere University has postponed the issuance of graduation gowns for its forthcoming 76th graduation ceremony, citing unavoidable circumstances.
In a notice issued on Monday, the university management informed graduands that gown collection, which was scheduled to begin on February 2, 2026, will now start on Wednesday, February 4, 2026.
“Gown issuance scheduled for today, 2nd February 2026, has been postponed to start on Wednesday 4th February 2026, due to unavoidable circumstances,” the notice read. The university apologised for the inconvenience caused and thanked graduands for their understanding.
Makerere University further clarified that PhD graduands will receive a separate communication indicating when they should pick up their gowns.
The postponement comes as preparations continue for the 76th graduation ceremony, which will take place from February 24 to 27, 2026, at the university’s Freedom Square. A total of 8,432 students are expected to graduate during the four-day ceremony.
University officials have urged graduands to remain attentive to official communications and follow updated schedules issued through recognised university channels to avoid confusion.
Makerere has recently reassured the public that the graduation ceremony will proceed as planned, despite earlier misinformation suggesting possible postponement.
