Muni University, Uganda’s premier higher education institution in the West Nile region, is set to host its seventh graduation ceremony.
Scheduled for tomorrow, November 9, 2024, the event will award certificates, bachelor’s degrees, and post-graduate diplomas across various academic fields, marking another chapter in the institution’s development as a key player in Uganda’s higher education sector.
The government-funded university, located in Arua City, will confer degrees upon 314 graduates across various academic disciplines, marking a substantial increase from the 143 students who graduated in April 2024.
However, only 17% (53) of the graduating students are females.
Archbishop Emeritus Henry Luke Orombi, the university chancellor, is expected to preside over the ceremony, which marks a decade since the institution welcomed its first cohort of students on November 4, 2014.
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, Associate Professor Simon Anguma Katrini, the Vice-Chancellor, revealed remarkable growth in student enrollment.
“Our student population has nearly tripled in recent years, rising from 722 students in 2022 to our current enrollment of 2,023 students in 2024,” he said.
Prof. Anguma attributed the previous low numbers to the institution’s initial policy of admitting only government-sponsored students, with limited government sponsorship slots of 100 students per intake.
