All roads in Western Uganda led to Valley University of Science and Technology Bushenyi district as it held its 3rd Graduation over the weekend.
A total of 180 graduands were conferred with degrees and diplomas by the Chancellor of the University Dr. James Musinguzi Garuga.
The colorful ceremony was attended by very many dignitaries from greater Bushenyi and Western Uganda.
The Chief Guest was Director General banana industrial research and development center BIRDC/PIBID Rev. Prof. Dr. Florence Isabirye Muranga. She called upon the graduands to be focused in the world of work and further their education because this was just the beginning of the journey academia.
She also warned them not to give up when they will face challenges which help to sharpen their brain for a successful future.
She continued to advise them that they will face failure like losing jobs, property and money but GOD is there to comfort them and bring them back to light.
The chancellor Dr. James Musinguzi Garuga encouraged graduates to avoid running for slavery in the Middle East but instead use the skills and knowledge acquire to be self-reliant citizens who create jobs. He noted that Uganda is a rich country which has the capacity to provide employment to all its citizens who have packaged themselves well.
The chairperson Board of Trustees Sir Richard Kaijuka noted that the University submitted its charter application last year in June and that all efforts will be geared at working with National Council for Higher Education to attain it before this year ends.
The Chairperson University Council, prof. William Kyamuhangire appreciated the fruitful collaboration the University enjoys with Dr. James Musinguzi Garuga. He noted that Dr. Garuga has sponsored more than 30 students to study at this University and made cash donation worth more than 100 million shillings to purchase books and computers for the University Library. Therefore Council recognized the contribution of Dr. James Musinguzi Garuga by naming the University Main Building after him; not because he is the Chancellor but because of his immense contribution to this University
The University Vice Chancellor Dr. Enos Rwasheema called upon the parents and guardians to bring their children to Valley University because the Institution is equipped with very all that is necessary to turn round graduates.
The bishop of west Ankole diocese Rt.Rev. Johnson Twinomujuni called upon already graduates at the time not to waste time because time is precious.
He also concluded by asking students to add value in their communities for the purposes of development.
According to information available at Valley University, the Institution provides free accommodation to students which is not a privilege among other Universities in Uganda and abroad.
The best performing students Akankwatsa Charity passed with 4.53 CGPA in bachelor of business administration, Sseruma Steven with 4.71 in bachelor of Science in information technology and Behwera Arthur passed with 4.51 CGPA in diploma in primary education
The University secretary Mr. Janan Mubehamwe also read out the decision of the University Council and Senate to reward the founder of Valley University Mzee William Mukaira and his wife Joy Mukaira.
Other people awarded included; Mr. Bwambale Patrick who was the overall best performing teaching staff, Mr. Agaba Andrew, the Marketing Officer as the overall best performing Adminstrative Staff and Mr. Atwiine Difa as the overall best performing support staff.
