Well….let’s get this straight! Most fresh graduates believe that there is no hope outside campus and they leave Uni with low expectations from the degrees or diplomas they just acquired. But there are several things you can do to earn a living or reduce on the time wasted walking on Kampala streets looking for that dream job.

Start A Business

The biggest reason why most Ugandan graduates do not earn is because they leave campus thinking of only being employees. Yes, Starting a business is a very big risk but once you pull yourself together and start one, trust me it will be worth it. You always hear those small voices in your mind like where will I get the capital? Will it work? There is no perfect way of knowing if it will work unless you make a decision to start one. Capital could be a problem only if your thinking of beginning a bigger business than your capacity. Start a small business that fits your pocket. If you lay down your strategies well,

There is no perfect way of knowing if it will work unless you make a decision to start one. Capital could be a problem only if your thinking of beginning a bigger business than your capacity. Start a small business that fits your pocket. If you lay down your strategies well,

If you lay down your strategies well, maybe your family can give you a hand. Wondering what example of business to start? That will be a topic for another day, but think of something you can do and the results will be as amazing as reading this article.

Getting the money should be your biggest goal immediately after you step out of the university. Don’t let your papers convince you that some jobs are low. My opinion would be to jump on any job you can get provided it makes money. Besides, we always praise our fellow Ugandans who come from abroad with the money but have you ever bothered to ask if they eat from their papers?
You will be amazed if the job you thought to be small happens to earn you big money…warning, it must be legal.

Apply For As Many Jobs As you Can

There are so many jobs in Uganda that do not need specific qualifications but just a proof of being literate. Your personal skills like talking, friendly nature could be one company’s main qualities of interest.  For example, you can be a good sales representative just because of being social or just for your communication skills. Therefore you can decide to charge people for your unique skills. Just don’t stop applying as many times as you can.

Keep your Papers Ready

Having your academic documents ready should be a practice even before graduating. Make sure that your CV is always up to date, have a minimum of 5 passport photos ready all the time. If possible keep some passport photos in your wallet just in case an opportunity comes around any moment.

It is a better idea to scan your academic documents to enable you have both soft copies and hard. Also, consider uploading them in your email’s drafts because a chance can happen when you have fewer expectations of it.

Your job hunt will be so easy and short lived if you started immediately after reading this article. Good Luck
