Many a time, I only thought of brain storming as a word only used in movies and never in real life although I had heard many people whisper the word in the corridors of my hostel. Matter of fact, I had never taken it serious and I thought it a mere joke. I thought the boss gives the orders and the employees carry out the order, that’s what I always thought.
Monday early morning, during the weekly meeting, I was one of the few that were chosen to remain behind for a brainstorming session about a new product going to hit the market. My heart raced, I even started sweating from places I didn’t know existed. To make it worse, I didn’t know why I was feeling so nervous.
Turns out that brainstorming is much more like having a discussion, where everyone who is well versed with the topic throws in their thoughts, argues with other people’s points with a little bit of evidence so as to establish a central ground that every participating party agrees to.
I was nervous because to me, brainstorming seemed like a living nightmare, I thought it was some sort of review meeting with a fancy name, I also thought I couldn’t come up with some brilliant points, I was wrong. Brainstorming meetings are the backbone of most companies and I loved my first.
