Makerere Kikumi Kikumi based Hostel Cotilde has reversed its orders to vacate students from their rooms after an investigative report by Campus Bee exposed irregularities in the initial directives. The dire situation called for the intervention of the Office of the Off-Campus Minister.
“This follows an incident that was published on the media regarding residents of Cotilde Hostel in Kikumi Kikumi, we were able to approach the hostel management who made a clarity to the issue raised and therefore the students in the above mentioned hostel will be able to finish their examinations for this semester while residing within their facility in accordance to the policies of the hostel management. I hereby call upon you to disregard the earlier notice; which has now been corrected and to also encourage the students in other places of residence to approach our office when in need,” Fortunate Ashabire – Off-Campus Minister hinted.
In return, the a hostel management on Friday responded in a letter to the long-unanswered questions.
“About the notice informing students to vacate hostel premises by 2nd June. I would like to clarify that this is meant for only the students who will have completed their semester exams by then and have spent their four months at the hostel. However, the students who are starting their examinations later on in June are allowed to stay at hostel premises until they have finalized with their examinations,” the hostel custodian remarked
“Other issues raised by the media house included water and electricity supply. This is always an area general problem which we have always contacted the responsible service providers (NWSC and UMEME) to sort as fast as we can. Management is highly committed to improving and maintaining welfare standards of the residents at all times,” he concluded.
