Choosing a hostel for your child to stay while at university isn’t an easy task, with a variety of hostels available near and far from the university, each offering somewhat different services from transporting of the student(your child) to how large and spacious their rooms are, how close or clean the public toilets are and how much each hostel costs.
Speaking from experience, students often want the hostels that show status or make them feel different when with their friends and because of this, student’s judgement is clouded by how beautiful a hostel might look skipping other facts like how far it is from the university, how much transport will be used when going to the university, and how close the hostel is to other amenities.
When looking for a good hostel, here are the things that must be considered and will be better explained tomorrow together with Hostels which a Nakawa based student (MUBs) can best access;
• Nearness to the university: How close is the hostel to the university, is the distance reasonable and safe at night?
• Proximity to the main road: What’s the distance between your hostel and the main road, do you get noise or disturbances at night because you are close to the road?
• Safety: Is your hostel in a safe location and not hidden, how far is the nearest police station? Is the hostel strict on security or laissez faire?
• Services offered: Does the hostel offer transport services, are the rooms large enough, are the toilets outside or inside, how clean are the public toilets and bathrooms, are your clothes safe from window shoppers who cloth lift?
• Your likes: What should your ideal hostel be like? Do you like prefer outside toilets to indoor toilet and bathroom? How large should a room be for you or for you and your friend? What exactly are your needs?
PS. Tomorrow we shall release a list of MUBs hostels with a rate of 1-10 on closeness to the university and a brief on each hostel excluding prices charged.
