Uganda Christian University (UCU) will hold her fourth graduation ceremony this year on Friday, July 27th, 2018 at her UCU Mbale University College Campus in eastern Uganda. This will also be the second part of UCU’s 19th graduation ceremony and the second in one month having graduated 1,024 students on July 6th, 2018 at her Main Campus in Mukono. It is also the first graduation ceremony at UCU Mbale University College this year.
A total of 296 students will graduate with masters, bachelor’s degrees and diplomas. They comprise of 169 (57% females) and 127 (43%) males. A total of 21 students (13 females and 8 males) will graduate with first-class degrees.
70-year-old graduand
The graduands include Can. Soitta Patrick Wandyetye aged 70 years. He will be graduating with a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Management. He sat his A-level before the breakup of the East African Community in 1977.
His success embodies hope, perseverance and determination, “I did it to set an example to my children and grandchildren,” he said. “It was always important to me to get a master’s degree”.
Can. Wandyetye is one of the oldest graduates in the history of the UCU Mbale University College which he joined in 2014 having completed Bachelors in Democracy and Development Studies from Uganda Martyrs University. He has not ruled out pursuing a PhD, “why not?”, he said.
The graduation ceremony will be presided over by the UCU Chancellor and Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Stanley Ntagali. It will be preceded by a Commissioning Service, a formal send-off session at UCU during which graduands are blessed and prayed for before their graduation. The guest preacher at the graduation ceremony is the Rt. Rev. James Nasak, the Bishop of North Karamoja Diocese.
Graduations at UCU
UCU holds seven graduation ceremonies annually at its Main Campus and Constituent Colleges. These include three graduation ceremonies at the UCU Main Campus in Mukono, two graduation ceremonies at Bishop Barham University College, (BBUC, Kabale) and two graduation ceremonies at UCU Mbale University College. Students at UCU Kampala Campus and UCU Arua Campus graduate from the Main Campus in Mukono.
The graduates will walk away with their transcripts after graduation to ease their absorption in the job market.
