Fresh off securing a juicy job at the office of the Deputy speaker of Parliament as Press Secretary, departing NBS Journalist Joseph Sabiiti recalled moments during his time at University when media companies refused to offer him an internship slot.
These media houses, he says are around Kampala and he had to loiter from place to place with hope to attain a vacancy which all ended in vain.
“As a University student I failed to actually find a placement for internship in Kampala ! Moved from one media house to another and I doubt any of them even read what was in the envelopes they asked us to drop at the receptions.” Sabiiti tweeted.
In reaction to Sabiiti’s tweet, Herbert Zzziwa who is a journalist at NTV Uganda revealed particular media companies that jam his internship application. He included CBS and Metro fm before adding: “they promised to call me, till now am still waiting for the call”
Over time, a section of students mostly have categorized internship as a daunting experience in the country ranging from rejected applications, trainers asking for money to harsh working conditions and no reward/payment at some placements among others.
Just like a one Benard Wodulo in the replies sections says, majority of students suffer twice; searching for an internship placement and searching for a job after one is done graduating.
