Rt. Hon. Among Anita, the Woman Member of Parliament for Bukedea District was on Monday elected Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda. Among also doubles as a Senior Lecturer at Makerere University Business School (MUBS) and Kampala International University (KIU).
She emerged winner of the Deputy Speaker seat of the 11th Parliament with overwhelming majority after defeating her two male opponents; Kampala Central MP Muhammad Nsereko (Independent) and Mawokota South MP Yusuf Nsibambi (FDC).
Among was on Sunday night endorsed by the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) caucus as the party representative for the post. She gathered 415 votes while her closet contender, Nsibambi got 35 and Nsereko 24 votes.
She was declared winner by the newly elected Speaker of the House, Jacob Oulanyah the Omoro County MP.
Among is a Certified accountant and Lawyer by profession. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Masters in Business Administration, Postgraduate Diploma in Banking, all from Makerere University.
The new Deputy Speaker, who also holds a Bachelors of Laws –LLB is experienced in the discipline of accounting and banking with over 20 years in the Banking Industry serving at the managerial rank.
During the 2021 general elections, Among went through unopposed before being declared the Woman Member of Parliament for Bukedea District.
