Over the weekend, Kyambogo university students had mobilised all resources to hold yet another mega demonstration after the previous demonstration over poor sanitation yielded no positive results. Up to today, students claim the sanitation of the University is still alarming and in a miserable state.
When this information got to the University administration, they called the Guild President for a closed door meeting to discuss the way forward.
And in an exclusive with Ochieng Ochieng the guild president of Kyambogo, he told this website that the University Academic Registrar suggested that if students can’t hold their peace and do the soon coming exams with out holding any other strike, the University might be closed for a while which means exams will be postponed to January.
“I was invited to a closed door meeting to discuss the closure of the University if students continue with these reckless demonstrations, which I disagreed with because, if this closure happens, it means exams will be pushed to January. So I advise my students to keep calm, do exams and go home, by the beginning of next semester, all the pending sanitary issues will be handled,” he warned students.
This website also took time to talk to a few students who had mixed reactions about the issue.
“I’m personally a finalist, people who are striking should know that the university is not for their parents so things will not always be done at their pace, so let’s do our exams amidst the hardships and go home,” commented Bulasio Edgar a 4th year engineering student.
“We ladies especially those that reside in halls of residence are finding so much hard time as far as sanitation issues are concerned, but If it involves postponing exams, hell no we shall endure…we don’t want to revise while in the festive,” Jalia an accounting student commented.
