An audio recording from a zoom lecture has over this week made rounds on social media, in which a purported respectable lecturer blasted a Makerere University Law Student for labeling himself as ‘counsel’ during class presentation.
The incident has sparked debate about the fine line between academic freedom and maintaining a respectful learning environment.
This student identified as Ssemanda has finally opened up about the experience under which he was subjected to public criticism
In a tweet, Ssemanda said he is, just like any other young man, a dreamer who is striving to reach the high level.
However, a section of the public, especially former classmates and other law profiles have advised the young man (Ssemanda) to be humble.
“Like Dr. advised you, be humble… It’s after this saga that I remembered meeting you at Buganda road court, inquired something from you but the way you replied equally qualifies you for Ateenyi’s reply in the recording,” a one Simon Peter said to the student.
As the law school and University at large reflects on the incident, it has become a catalyst for conversations about the delicate balance between academic freedom, constructive criticism, and maintaining a supportive learning atmosphere.
