While addressing first-year students commonly known as freshers, the Kampala International University Vice-Chancellor Dr Mouhamad Mpezamihigo advised them about several issues while presiding over the University’s general orientation.
According to Mpezamihigo, the Kansanga based University is expecting to admit over 9000 new students this academic year. The orientation week kicked off last Friday, August 31st where students have been tipped about issues relating to entrepreneurship, digital skills, how to associate, and also equipped with the university’s rules and regulations.
Dr Mpezamihigo advised the freshers to adopt a saving culture and logic if they ever wish to survive campus life, “Our students need to start using logic for survival. Buy a tool that will help you, instead of an expensive phone, rather buy a microscope. When you are doing research on the internet, it does not matter what phone you have. Save money and buy things you need.” Mpezamihigo told freshers last Friday.
Following various cases of con men in different Universities involving freshers, Dr Mpezamihigo told the KIU first-year students to be careful of people they trust especially when it comes to money. “students have to be very cautious of fraudsters. They must go to relevant offices where they can get the correct information.” Mpezamihigo added.
Dr Mpezamihigo took some minutes and toured around the ongoing bazaar at KIU in the company of journalists and a few freshers. While walking around the campus premises, Dr. Mpezamihigo asked about prices of various products and went ahead to reveal that bringing these things closer to students saves them from fraudsters and being overcharged.
The KIU VC concluded by addressing the issue of re-accreditation of some courses as he assured the nation that it was sorted. Apparently, discussions with the National Council are still ongoing to see that all programmes are reviewed.
