Bishop Stuart University has reacted to allegations of sexual harassment that have been reported in the media following an outcry by students.
A section of Bishop Stuart University students disclosed to the media last week that they are sexually harassed by their lecturers. The students claimed that lecturers ask for sex from them in exchange for marks.
The revelation was made during the anti-corruption conference that was held at Bishop Stuart University on June 8th.
The said allegations have prompted Bishop Stuart University to speak out and mitigate the impact of the negative publicity.
In a press release dated June 14th, Bishop Stuart University, without acknowledging or denying the vice, said it has a dedicated committee that handles all complaints of sexual harassment from students. The university says all members found guilty are rightfully punished.
The University further condemns all forms of sexual harassment and states that it has a policy against Sexual harassment that is diligently enforced.
“As an institution rooted in Christian values, BSU categorically condemns any form of sexual harassment. The university maintains a robust sexual harassment policy that is diligently enforced to ensure the safety of all students and staff,” the press release reads in part.
The university further encourages all students and staff that have been sexually harassed to report through the right channels.
