Following Ainebyona Ronald’s indefinite suspension from Makerere University over “bribing” the Dean of Students, the beleaguered student has now been arrested today morning and detained at the University police post, Campus Bee has learnt.
It is unclear on what charges the student has been arrested, although Makerere’s Vice Chancellor not only ordered Ainebyona in the suspension letter of 12 March 2018 to vacate university premises immediately but also forwarded the matter to the University’s Chief Security Officer “for further management”.
Conspicuously, no investigation or disciplinary sanction has so far been taken against the Dean of Students who Ainebyona alleges to have given the UGX 5.6M bribe.
Following a Facebook post on a page believed to be run by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe in which Prof. Nawangwe appears to accuse the media of bias for the way it had so far reported this story.
By press time, Campus Bee could not independently establish whether Ainebyona is still in Police custody or not, although we understand that frantic efforts to secure his freedom are already underway being led by concerned friends and family.
