Students with disabilities including the visually impaired, those with hearing impairments and those who are physically disabled from Kyambogo university have this morning staged a demonstration at the University Senate to air out their grievances to the administration.
Egwelu Timothy, an engineering student with a hearing impairment has told this website that the persons (students) with disabilities have been neglected yet other students are clearly being catered for.
“While addressing the officials they found in the University secretary’s office, these students claimed that they’ve not received disabilities allowances for the past 6 weeks, no braille papers have been provided for the blind students meaning they have no where to write,” Egwelu told Campus Bee.
These students led by their guild representative councilor Hon. Mark Kalibbala Giggs also claimed that the Guild President Ochieng Ochieng has swayed away from his manifesto where he had promised to put their interests first. They claim the disability policy has been raped, the University secretary is never available to cater for their needs and that there’s a strong prey of corruption that’s eating up the disability Committe.
The administration has not yet responded as these disabled students still roam amidst confusion.
