According to Eng. Wana Etyem the Council chairperson, the Makerere University management has offered to extend the tuition payment deadline during the current semester up to the 12th week.

This follows a just-concluded crisis meeting held between the Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kaihura, Makerere University management, the Guild President Bala David and various students’ representatives.

Students had demanded that the policy be totally scrapped but this position has not been accepted by university management but has instead promised to engage the Council more on the issue.

In a related development, police has accepted to release the students arrested during the strike although the IGP has made it clear that their files will remain open at police just in case they engage in similar conduct in future.
