President Yoweri Museveni in his address to the nation moments ago, has directed all schools and institutions of higher learning to close for a period of 42 days effective 7th June 2021 (tomorrow) following a resurgence in the Coronavirus pandemic.
“As guided by the task force, schools should therefore close with effect from June 7th 8:00AM ” President Museveni said
“When we closed schools last year 15 million learners were safe, but after we re-opened, you can now see what has happened” he also said, in part
This development means that students and pupils who hadn’t reported back to school will have to wait a little longer until a more sustainable solution to combat the virus amongst academic institutions is found.
The president also instructed teachers have been instructed to get vaccinated against COVID-19
Universities are yet to announce their plans to align their schedules to the new presidential directive. At the moment some institutions such as Makerere, Mbarara University (MUST) are in the process of End of Semester examinations.
