The Makerere University administration has extended end of semester examinations that were slated to kick off today Monday, April 29. According to a statement issued by the university’s Vice Chancellor Prof Barnabas Nawangwe, the exams will begin on Saturday, 4th May.
His announcement has come following threats from the newly elected Guild President, Kateregga Julius, who had earlier declared a students’ strike if the said exams are not postponed. According to Nawangwe’s official statement, the postponement was agreed following a meeting with student leaders of the state-owned university.
“Following a meeting held with the guild president, cabinet members, it was agreed that due to the stand-off at the beginning of the semester, the exam time table be adjusted.” Reads part of Nawangwe’s statement.
The document further explains that there will be no extension of the semester as highly demanded by students. Apparently, the rescheduled exams must be done to fit in the original semester calendar. All students are called upon to finish their course works between today Monday, April 29 and Friday, 3rd May.
