Under the umbrella Busitema University Academic Staff Association (BUASA), lecturers from the mentioned university have announced their position regarding the ongoing strike by lecturers in public universities.
According to statement issued by Nteziyaremye Julius, Acting Chairperson BUASA, Busitema lecturers are on strike as per the resolution taken on 14th June 2020 and reaffirmed during the FASPU members emergency general assembly held on 4th February 2021 and the BUASA assembly held on 16th.
The statement further indicates that the lecturers will only participate in conducting exams for the students that have just completed their course units following the lock down.
“We would like the management to know that we are on strike as per the resolution taken on 14.June.2020 and reaffirmed during the FASPU members emergency GA (held on 04.02.2021) and the BUASA assembly held today. We shall only participate in conducting exams for the students that have just completed their course units following the lock-down.” The statement reads in part.
“We are not supposed to engage in other academic programmes be it on-line teaching of whichever students or attending meeting to discuss marking, results or even drawing academic programmes till we are listened. As BUASA, we denounce the abuse of office and failure to abide by the 14th .December.2019 presidential directive of pro-rata” the statement adds.
During yesterday’s meeting, the BUASA electoral commission was elected and tasked with organizing elections for the different BUASA representatives to university bodies.
