In the new development from Jinja based Busoga University, the new university vice-chancellor David Lameck Kibikyo has refuted all accusations of poor management and administration that saw the laying of majority staff of the university.
While addressing chairmpersons of the ten districts that make up Busoga sub region about the state of the university at the New Bugiri campus on Sunday afternoon, Mr David Lameck took time to explain the matter and circumstances and also clear the air under which most staff were laid off from the University staff list.
“The rumors going around that we unfairly fired part of our staff from the campus should be treated without any concern. We simply laid off these particular because they don’t measure to the required standards or failed to deliver to their expectations thus being discontinued,” he noted
During March this year, most of the staff at Busoga University staged a sit-down strike accusing the administrators of failure to pay their salaries for more than three months, coupled with laying off of most members of the teaching staff.
The Vice-Chancellor also admitted that there was some crisis in March when the staff staged a strike but was quick to affirm that the university took action because of the good administration and therefore could not deter them from pursuing the right cause for the plight of students.
“We were faced with a catastrophe that needed boldness to be handled because our predecessors had employed mostly bachelor’s’ degree holders as lectures yet surely according to the set standards and requisites by the National council for higher education, they could not even measure to the level of tutorial assistants, we definitely had to encourage them first go back and upgrade. Such people instead of understanding the position just waged war” he noted.
Busoga University has been faced with a number of controversies as regarding administration however the new vice chancellor David Lameck Kibikyo assures of a better and stable administration under his reign.
