Kyambogo university has fired and replaced all striking non teaching staff following the directive from the Minister of Education and Sports Janet Museveni.
While addressing members of the press yesterday the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Elly Katunguka said “We have hired new staff as directed by the Minister to replace all those non teaching staff that are still out there on strike.”
However it seems the staff itself is still tight and standing to their word, in that up to now most of them haven’t handed over the keys and other materials of office to the faculties as ordered by the VC.
“We cannot give out our offices just like that because we signed contracts so they can’t be terminated in that way,” said Jackson Betihama this afternoon while addressing his fellow staff.
Currently all kitchen staff at various halls have been replaced by new staff and now students will have something to put to mouth.
Speaking to Campus Bee, Christopher Mugisha the information minister confirmed that the administration is working around the clock to see that campus stabilises before the end of this week .
“I’m sure they are soon assigning different individuals to fill up the wardens offices to register students.”
