Our sources, have it that Uganda Christian University Law Society is currently conducting its Elections that the majority have termed as “controversial”. This comes after a petition was lodged against the Law Society Electoral Commission before the Guild Tribunal on 7th March, 2018 by a First Year Law Student known as Turinawe Bayern against the decision of the Law Society Electoral Commission after it vetted him out of the race for the highest office in the Society (President).
Some of the reasons stated by the Commission for his exclusion from the race was that as a first-year law student, he did not possess the necessary experience to lead the society.
This assertion was rubbished by Turinawe as he claimed that the laws of governing the Society (the Constitution) did not state experience as one of the prerequisites to stand for this post.
Sadly, this did not go well for the first-year law student whose petition was dismissed by the Guild Tribunal yesterday on the 8th of March.
However, in an interview with Turinawe, he stated that this would not be the end and urged his fellow classmates to boycott the elections as a way of making their grievances heard. Perhaps, this could be the reason for the low turn up amongst the first-year students who have promised to have this election and its results declared null and void.
The vote casting is to go on until 5pm and we shall keep you posted on the new developments.
