“The courts of law do not give Diplomas” says Simon Kinobe, the President of the Uganda Law Society (ULS), reiterating a similar message that has been making rounds on social media following the court ruling by Lady Justice Lydia Mugambe in a suit against LDC.
Background to the comments the president made. Students of LDC from the previous years 2017/2018 and below, dragged the institution to court asking the court to compel LDC to release their examinations scripts and marking guides, accusing it of intentionally failing them.
He said this and other things while delivering his speech at the 47th Graduation ceremony of the Law Development Center (LDC) that took place today, the 13th December 2019 at Binaisa Gardens.
“For those waiting for courts to give diploma, time will tell.” He added. The president was one of the many speakers lined up for the day.
He also invited the lawyers, he called “chosen among many” to join the membership based ULS and asked that they practice the profession of the law with integrity saying that the lawyers’ profession is an obligation to give back to society, to those who are less privileged.
“Humanity should reign as we do all the work we do.” He advised.
