The Uganda National Students Association (UNSA) has come out to support students that remained behind in hostels following government closure of Universities on 18th March 2020.
In a letter authored by Hellen Ninsiima the Vice President of the association on Saturday 9th May, the association has urged the Ministry of Education and Sports and the National Task force on COVID-19 to render more support to these starving students
“It has come to my attention through several students led by Birungi Esther, a law student that a number of students have remained stranded at various hostels and places of residence due to the current state of the lockdown. These students especially females might resort to immoral acts for survival because of hunger and uncertainty,” Ninsiima noted with concern
She has also highlighted the fact that students have not been considered among the Vulnerable Poor and often ignored during the food distribution exercise in areas of Banda, Nakawa and Kikoni
The association has also called on all stranded students to send their details to any of the UNSA National Executive Committee (NEC) or Esther Birungi (@EstherBirungi4) on Twitter.
