In the second session of the 82nd GRC (Guild Representative Council) that took place in the Conference Room of Senate Building at Makerere University, members of the GRC cast votes for the new Chief Editor of the Makererean which had contestants that included Ashabahebwa Ronald, Lujjumwa Micheal Jacob, Mudusu Abbey and Maate Derrick.
When the counting was done, Mudusu Abbey from School of Education emerged winner with 28 votes as his closest rival Maate Derrick got 25 votes.
It is not suprising though that the winner whilst on the campaign trail on several occasions always admitted that Campus Bee has taken over and that The Makererean has gone to the dogs which he promised to work upon.
“Please give me votes. It hurts me to see Campus Bee taking over when [The Makererean] is the oldest paper,” he campaigned.
Campus Bee was this year named the Best Blog in the Social Media Awards 2016 for delivering edge-cutting, update, witty news and lifestyle articles about campus students allover Uganda.
The Makererean is print media that is released once in an academic year and it is a project of the Makerere Students’ Guild under the Ministry of Information and it is accountable directly to the GRC under the stipulated line Minister as per Art. 51 (2) of the Makerere University Students’ Guild Constitution.
The elected Chief Editor, by power given to him by the Students’ Guild Constitution, may enter into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with any individual, Department or Organisation to the benefit of the Students’ Guild.
