Makerere University, in partnership with UNDP, is holding a youth and innovation expo to empower young entrepreneurs.
The expo was officially opened on October 6th, 2023 with deputy speaker of parliament Thomas Tayebwa as guest of honour. The expo focuses on fostering innovations for Uganda’s transformational development.
While opening the expo, Hon. Thomas Tayebwa thanked Makerere University for coming up with such a great idea and reassured the university that Government is ready to give them financial assistance.
Tayebwa said government is working on policies that will enable youth earn from their business such as local content act among others. He also told the students to always be disciplined.
Elsie Attafuah, UNDP representative told students to always think out of the box, be flexible, and embrace technology if they are to achieve the development goals.
Prof. Barnabas Nawangwe said they are ’embarking on an inspiring journey of innovation and entrepreneurship, empowering our youth to craft their destinies and illuminate our future’.
Different students were given an opportunity to exhibit their businesses and innovations at the expo and these were grouped according to their respective colleges.
The youth and innovation expo will run till Saturday October 7th, 2023. The expo is sponsored by UNDP and MTN Uganda.
