Speaking to Nkumba University students about the wave of women murders engulfing Entebbe and surrounding areas, one question from a student really got the IGP Gen. Kale Kayihura on the offensive.
The question; “Is it true that you employ prostitutes as informants in the ongoing investigations of women murders?”.
The IGP, who in most cases takes and answers questions in a chronological order chose to answer this immediately, offering a stern “No I don’t”, before proceeding on a long statement about how he’s fighting to end prostitution and how prostitutes are among the women being killed in the ongoing wave of murders.
The number of women that have been killed stands at 23 with the recent one being just less than a kilometer from the University itself.
Kayihura’s appearance came on the back of a botched demonstration by Nkumba students on Monday followed by yesterday’s drama as students stormed out of a meeting on realising the IGP hadn’t appeared as promised.
He urged the students to be vigilant, work hand in hand with police, and also take part in what he termed as “civilian arrests”.
On the cause of the murders, 11 of which are withing the Nkumba- Kisubi area, Kayihura cited; crimes of passion, organised crime, witchcraft and community disputes.
He vowed to put an end to the killings. “We are doing whatever it takes to hunt down these criminals, & we are making progress,” he said.
