First lady Hon. Janet Kataaha Museveni has called upon students to revise their lifestyles in regard to conduct and dress codes to avoid mocking the poor who are unable to wear properly tailored clothing .
Hon. Kataaha expressed the matter through a post-birthday written statement in which she explained how youths have made it a culture to wear torn (damaged) clothing as a lifestyle, which she says mocks the poor and vulnerable person(s)
“If you are an adolescent boy at school like the girl I just talked about, you ensure you are an astute student, you lead others to refuse to wear torn trousers because Uganda does not respect those who mock our poor people by making a fashion of what our people wear because of poverty.” She wrote.
“You refuse long dirty hair because Ugandans are descent Africans who beautify God’s creation and not denigrate the African beauty to make Ugandans (Africans) look ugly, mad or hopeless.” She advised students
In the same writing, she urged adolescent school-going girls to keep their character in check through keeping clean and presentable for the good of their life. She also advised them to desist engaging in relationships that blemish their character, in that respect.
“Ensure you are clean, you keep your hair short, manageable and natural because you are proud to be African.” she noted, advising the school-going girls.
“You will not open up to relationships that can dent your character because you want to be whole, you want Ugandan girls to be known to be whole and you know God has a great purpose for your life” she added.
The first lady recently celebrated her 73rd birthday on June 24 and she extended her gratitude to citizens who prefer to call her “mama” by choice
