Drama engulfed residents of Kagadi when the area’s police arrested Brenda Tushabe, 20, a student of Kampala International University (KIU) for allegedly faking her own kidnap.
According to Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson, Tushabe disappeared from her father’s home in Nyakabale village, Kagadi District last Saturday, June 1.
Hakiza added that her father (Suleiman Kazigani) received calls from unknown people claiming to have abducted his daughter. Using Tushabe’s mobile phone, the alleged abductors demanded a ransom of UGX 300,000 from Kazigani. They also threatened to kill her if the family failed to send the asked money.
The strange call forced Kazigani to report the matter to a nearby police station in Kagadi and apparently his daughter was later spotted in Kagadi town on Tuesday afternoon. She was reportedly seen on a boda-boda by residents who later alerted police.
Tushabe is currently in police’s custody but the officials suspect that she connived with thugs to fake her own kidnap.
