Kyambogo University has moved swiftly to shut down false rumours circulating online claiming that the institution has been closed, assuring students, parents, and the public that all is well and operations are running normally.

In a statement issued by Vice Chancellor Prof. Eli Katunguka Rwakishaya, the university described the closure reports as “absolutely untrue” and urged the public to disregard the misinformation.

Setting the Record Straight

“Please disregard any false information circulating online claiming that Kyambogo University has been closed. This is absolutely untrue,” the Vice Chancellor said.

He went on to reassure the university community that Kyambogo “remains open and vibrant,” and is actively preparing for the upcoming academic year.

Far from shutting down, the university confirmed it is gearing up for a fresh academic year, with the new semester scheduled to commence in August. The reporting dates are:

• Freshers report on August 1st

• Continuing students arrive on August 8th

“We look forward to welcoming you all to a successful and productive academic year,” Prof. Katunguka added.

A Timely Clarification

The statement comes at a moment when false information can spread rapidly across social media, often causing unnecessary anxiety among students and parents. By moving quickly to correct the record, the university has sought to reassure freshers preparing to join and continuing students planning their return.

For anyone who came across the closure claims, the message from the top is clear: Kyambogo University is open, operations are normal, and the countdown to a new academic year is firmly on.

The Takeaway for Students

Incoming and continuing students are advised to mark the reporting dates and to rely only on official university channels for accurate information. As this case shows, not everything circulating online is true — and when in doubt, the university’s official communications are the source to trust.
