Reserve protection services (RPS), the security company that has been in charge of Kyambogo University was earlier this week sacked and replaced by Savannah Security Group (SSS).
This development was confirmed by the chief security officer Afande Andrew Mugarura saying “we cannot stand having a disorganized security company to be in charge of the university property worthy of billions”.
This dismissal comes in at a time when the security guards had just abandoned their work stations a few weeks back protesting over the meager payments of less than shs200,000 Ugandan shillings which they also claimed took ages to be disbursed.
That aside, they were also protesting for working under harsh unfavorable conditions.
Reacting to their previous protest, Mr. Andrew Mugarura said the security group was tarnishing the university’s name because payments were already made to the security company so it wasn’t their fault for they had played their part in this.
The guild information minister, Christopher Mugisha told Campus Bee that RPS was also getting so used to the university and had started taking security issues for granted which was putting the university at a very big security risk.
So, the university had to act accordingly as advised by a few security experts. They hope SSS will be effective and uphold the guidelines and instructions given to them.
