Whereas the phased reopening of schools has been announced and that they have been scheduled to resume on the 20th September 2020 especially for the candidate classes, following a meeting that was held by the president and the National COVID 19 taskforce at State House Entebbe on the 1st September, Campus Bee has learned the funds rather termed the “capitation fund” have not yet been released.
The government usually releases funds to fund school activities every term, and according to the letter, the funds have not yet been released for this new “third term” given that institutions were still and are still closed due to COVID 19.
In a letter dated 2nd September 2020, that we have received and read, the Minister of Education, Janet Museveni, is writing to the Minister of Finance, Mr. Matia Kasaija to release the said funds to facilitate the yet to open school activities in the phased re-opening.
“…this is therefore to request you to cause the release of the funds to the beneficiary schools to prepare for the phased re-opening of schools”.
We are yet to see if the release of the said funds will further frustrate the reopening of the schools.
