Musanje Rogers, a Kyambogo University student who also doubles as the Guild Minister for Social on and off campus has come out to comment about the University’s move to scrap off meals from halls of residence. Musanje’s comment comes following the University administration’s decision to start paying cash to government-sponsored students instead of preparing meals for them.
According to Musanje, female students are likely going to resort to prostitution as they can’t handle studying on empty stomachs. “There is no way we can learn when we are hungry. You’ll find students starting to cook for themselves, what will come next? Fire outbreaks, prostitution where all our girls will face insufficiency and will have to run on the streets to get men so that they can facilitate them.” Musanje told journalists on Wednesday morning while appearing at an FDC joint press conference held at Makerere University.
Musanje went ahead to advise the government-owned University leaders including Kyambogo and Makerere administrators to stop taking students’ issues lightly following the various policies that have been passed. He also advised the student representatives to be vigilant while signing new policies citing an example of the Makerere University seven-member committee that passed the 15% tuition increment.
