Students of Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) have embarked on a campaign to ensure that residents of the newly created Mbarara City comply with COVID-19 guidelines so that the virus is dealt with accordingly and doesn’t blow out.
The students, who have dispersed themselves around the city, are targeting areas with high concentrations of people sensitizing them on the need to social distance, wash/sanitize their hands very frequently and wear face masks.
The students insist that if the residents refuse to comply to the guidelines, the virus will blow out and fade their chances of ever returning to school. As such, they believe their contribution will keep the activities in check.
“People are getting complacent and we are here to check that. Most of them even assume that the virus is nolonger in Uganda and authorities are using it to scare them which is very absurd. If they continue like this, we may even have the City locked down again which isn’t good for their business or our education.” Martin Maate, a student at the university said.
The students have distributed water dispensers around city hot spots and are calling upon the government to avail face masks so as to properly check the spread of the virus.
