The former Guild President of Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) main campus, Shahali Mugamba on Friday failed to raise shs3 million nomination fees for Members of Parliament.
Mugamba’s dream to become the shortest Member of Parliament in the history of Uganda was curtailed by lack of funds and dropped out of the race. He was vying for Member of Parliament for Northern City Division Constituency, Mbale City.
Mugamba who was contesting on an Independent ticket has now dropped out of the race and let six other contestants tussle it out. He says he will now restrategize and save up enough money for the 2026 elections.
Mugamba, who was then a second year computer science student became the guild president of IUIU 2016/2017. He polled 653 votes beating fellow colleagues, Mohamed Dahir Dagane who garnered 562 votes and Katende Jamaldin who got 556 votes.
