Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, the former President of Nigeria has been appointed Chancellor for Cavendish University Uganda replacing Benjamin William Mkapa who played the same role before dying in July 2020.
While addressing the media in a virtual press briefing on Monday morning, the university’s Vice Chancellor Prof. John Mugisha revealed that Gooluck will be officially installed on 26th August 2021, the same date set for their 10th graduation ceremony.
Goodluck, who will be serving as Cavendish University’s Chancellor for the next four years will be responsible for conferring degrees and awarding diplomas to graduands, among other roles.
“H.E Dr. Jonathan Goodluck holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology, a Master’s Degree in Hydrobiology and fisheries biology; and a PhD in zoology from the University of Port Harcourt.” Mugisha said before adding that “I am very happy on behalf of Cavendish University Uganda, sponsors and the University Council to announce H.E Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as our new Chancellor for the next four years.”
‘We look forward to his wise counsel in supporting the university to achieve its new mission of transforming and inspiring students to reach their full potential in employment, entrepreneurship and ethical leadership.” Mugisha added.
Dr. Goodluck, who will be the third Cavendish University Chancellor replaces H.E. Benjamin Mkapa (former President of the United Republic of Tanzania, 2nd Chancellor, deceased) and H.E. Dr Kenneth Kaunda (former President of the Republic of Zambia, 1st Chancellor, deceased).
Also present was the Cavendish University Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs) Dr. Olive Sabiiti who revealed that they will continue issuing scholarship opportunities to 60 students every year despite the ongoing challenges brought by COVID-19.
Besides students, the university also gives scholarships to the University Advisory council members in a special arrangement.
