A retired lecturer at the Uganda Management Institute (UMI) and senior accountant was Wednesday shot dead while walking from Mabirizi city complex during the riots in the city centre.
John Kitobe,72, a resident of Naalya Housing Estate was one of the many yet unidentified victims of the Wednesday riots following the arrest of NUP Presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi while addressing a rally at Luuka district headquarters.
Kyagulanyi was still being held at Nalufenya police station in Jinja.
Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesman, Luke Owoyesigyire said the police were still verifying information regarding people killed and injured and promised to avail details in the evening of Thursday.
But a family member, Jonas Nuwagaba confirmed that Kitobe was shot at Mabirizi complex.
On Wednesday, Nuwagaba said, Kitobe had gone town to carry out some transactions.
He said Kitobe was shot and died instantly as he walked down the stairs to reach out to his car.
According to Nuwagaba, his uncle worked as an accountant at the Uganda Tea company, a financial controller at the Uganda Red Cross, and a lecturer at UMI before he retired.
Kitobe will be buried on Saturday at Mushanga.
