Makerere University has postponed the end of semester examinations for final year students due to the ongoing unrest and riots that broke out Wednesday after National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine was arrested and detained at Nalufenya police station in Jinja.

The biggest Public University in Uganda through its Academic Registrar, Namoah Masikye, announced that the examinations that were slated for Friday 20th November and Saturday 21st November 2020 have been cancelled.

“After consultations with Makerere University Management, this is to inform all students and other stakeholders that the examinations scheduled for Friday 20th November and Saturday 21st November have been postponed,” the communique reads in part.

The postponement of the end of semester examinations comes after heightened unrest around the country as scores demonstrate the incarceration of Bobi Wine. Seven rioters have so far been killed and scores injured.

Mr Masikye revealed that new dates of the postponed examinations will be communicated.
