During a function held at Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine’s residence in Magere, People Power, a political pressure group led by the Kyadondo legislator officially launched its students’ wing dubbed “Students Power.”
The event also doubled as the official unveiling ceremony for People Power students leaders from different universities in the country. The team is led by former Makerere University Guild President Roy Ssemboga.
The list features new names that were added to the first group of students who were announced as the pressure group’s students representatives. Among the new people on the list Include; Siperia Molly, a Makerere University student who spearheaded the recent demonstration against tuition increment.
Siperia is among the communications personnel and she will be working with Tundulu Jonathan, the recently impeached Kyambogo University Guild President. While speaking at the launch, Bobi Wine urged students not to be intimidated by the ruling government headed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
“I want to give special respect to girls who started the Makerere demonstration, I call it a revolution. Unlike the business community, you students have been a pivot in any revolution historically worldwide. What we must continue to reflect on are the things happening in every university and we want to take it beyond university level .” Bobi Wine vowed.
“Museveni will use all forms of intimidation on you or he will throw all bags of money at you. These are people with no future but they want to buy yours because there is nothing else they can offer other than money.” He added.
The ceremony was graced by Joel Ssenyonyi, a Law scholar at Makerere University who doubles as the People Power spokesperson. Also present was Chairman Nyanzi (Bobi’s brother) who is reportedly studying at Makerere University.
