Ten graduates from both Public and Private Chartered Universities in Uganda were yesterday awarded scholarships by The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU). The ten beneficiaries, who will be sponsored to pursue their CPA course were unveiled in a virtual ceremony that took place in Kampala.
Speaking at the event, ICPAU CEO/Secretary John Bosco Ntagaare revealed that the course will empower the beneficiaries to nurture their talents and they will be able to qualify as accountants in the next two years.
It is important to note that ICPAU rolled out a programme in 2019, which is aimed at supporting students to undertake the CPA qualification annually.
The institute received a total of 187 applications and only ten emerged the most eligible.
“We are producing accountants that will maintain the standard of accountancy in Uganda and you the ten have now started this journey of training to become professional accountants. I know you competed but you are also very lucky to emerge the most eligible for the ICPAU scholarship,” Ntagaare said.
Six out of the ten beneficiaries are male while the remaining four are females. The winners include; five graduates from Makerere University, three from Kyambogo, one from UCU and one from Kabale University.
According to Ntagaare, the scholarship covers the cost of registration, study materials, exemptions/examinations fees, annual subscription fees, among others.
The keynote speaker of the event was CPA Stephen Muchelule, who assured students that they made the best choice to pursue accounting. Muchelule advised the students to be professional during their career.
Also present at the event was ICPAU President, CPA Fredrick Kibedi who congratulated the winners ahead of their accountancy journey. Kibed also revealed that the CPA syllabus is benchmarked on international education standards and legal framework for Uganda.
Once these beneficiaries complete the CPA course, they can work in any East African country without being required to sit for further examinations.
