Mbarara based Bishop Stuart University is celebrating its annual university week catalyzed by several preaching and activities to celebrate its exitence over the years.
On Sunday, Gen. Elly Tumwine, Uganda’s minister for security was the main preacher who encouraged the students to dwell on the words of God and desit from corruption. Gen. Tumwine also spoke about the several misunderstandings the students have had with the adminstration and called on the students to seek for amicable peaceful solutions to their problesm instead of resorting to strikes and demostrations.
Gen. Tumwine’s preaching comes at a time when many opposition youths especially in the BSU society leballed him as an enemy of truth. Upon hearing his sermons, several students from the university took to social media calling him a false preacher who should not even have stepped foot on BSU soils to preach the word of God.
“I am not surprised but that’s the reason some of us didn’t come for that service. I anticipate Gen. Tumwine is not a good vessel to deliver God’s word,’’ BSU Guild president H.E Denmark Adios told the students regarding Tumwine’s preaching.
The Guild president went further encouraging the students to shun his preachings and instead wait for the people’s president’s visit which he said will be soon to the University.
Other students however boycotted the sixth edition of the annual Bishop Stuart Week regarding the minister to be preaching a gospel he does not practice.
“He is telling us to be humble yet he himself has been the worst in parliament regarding the issues of safe houses where Ugandans are tortured. We can not listen to the preachings of an arrogant man like him, one student Kunihira Edison told campusbee
Over the years, BSU has been a strong hold of opposition party students with several running battles with the administration which in most cases led to the university battling court cases with its students
BSU week is an annual activity at the university where students and staff celebrate the achivements of th university over the years with several talks and engagements to empower the students to be better citizens.
