The late Tooro King, Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, spent more than a year seeking medical attention in Uganda for different pains before he was eventually diagnosed with cancer, Princess Ruth Komuntale has revealed.
Princess Komuntale, the King’s sister, said the late monarch had undergone several medical evaluations in Uganda, but unfortunately did not receive the correct diagnosis during that period.
According to her, by the time the King underwent advanced medical evaluations and received the correct diagnosis, the cancer had already spread significantly and was affecting several organs in his body.
“The King was misdiagnosed in Uganda. By the time he received the proper diagnosis, the cancer had spread all over the body, and had affected many organs of the body,” Princess Komuntale revealed.
She said the family only learnt the full extent of the King’s condition after he received more advanced medical assessments.
MORE THAN A YEAR SEEKING ANSWERS
Princess Komuntale said King Oyo had been experiencing different forms of pain and had spent more than a year seeking medical evaluations in Uganda.
However, she said the correct diagnosis was not made during that period.
“Before his cancer diagnosis, he had spent more than a year seeking medical evaluations in Uganda for the different pains he was experiencing. Sadly, he was not receiving the correct diagnosis then,” she said.
By the time the cancer was correctly identified, Princess Komuntale said, it had progressed considerably.
She said the disease was no longer confined to one part of the body but had spread and affected multiple organs.
KING KEPT DIAGNOSIS SECRET
Princess Komuntale further revealed that the King himself instructed members of the family not to disclose the diagnosis.
“When this news was shared with us, my brother cautioned us not to tell anyone,” she said.
The revelation explains why details surrounding King Oyo’s illness remained largely private until after his death.
The late monarch died aged 34, bringing to an end a reign that began when he was only three years old.
His death has since plunged the Tooro Kingdom into mourning, with members of the royal family and his subjects preparing to lay their King to rest.
Princess Komuntale’s account has now shed fresh light on the final period of King Oyo’s life, particularly the prolonged search for a correct diagnosis and the extent to which the cancer had progressed by the time it was finally detected.
